State of Delaware Demographics

By land size, Delaware is the second smallest state in the nation. But it makes up for it in might. Close to a million companies – including more than half of the corporations that comprise the Fortune 500 – are incorporated in Delaware, partly because of it pro-business population, but also because of its advanced and flexible corporation statutes, its well respected corporations court (The Court of Chancery), and its state legislature, which remains focused on keeping business laws fresh, according to the Delaware Department of State.

Based on 2013 statistics, the government sector employs the greatest percentage of workers in the state, followed by health care and social assistance; retail trade; finance and insurance; and professional and technical services, respectively. (Source: Merritt Research Services, LLC)
