The latest employment scorecard for the State of Florida for August 2016 to August 2017 is listed below, based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Florida’s labor force grew at a healthy 2.54 percent annual rate, and its unemployment rate fell to 4.0 percent. Despite its attractiveness as a retiree destination, Florida’s labor force participation rate actually increased slightly from August 2016 to August 2017. Florida’s labor force participation rate is still a low 59.5%, but this is a figure that, given the fact of and desire for retirees to move to Florida and spend their retiree dollars, is in large part by design.
