State of Maryland Demographics

Located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., Maryland is one of the smallest states in terms of area, but one of the most densely populated, along with the highest median household income. Skilled occupations related to health care and technology fields are highly demanded by employers. From 2012 to 2022 it is projected that total employment will increase by 6.1 percent, with the largest growth projected to occur in professional, scientific, and technical services. Maryland’s labor force grew at a healthy 2.24 percent pace, and the labor force participation rate increased 1.2 percent to a very good 68.3 percent.
