State of New Jersey Demographics
Located in the BLS New York-New Jersey region, the Garden State is known for tourism in Atlantic City and Jersey Shore, proximity to New York City, shipping ports, and major pharmaceutical firms. Despite a much slower recovery from the recession relative to other states, New Jersey has recently shown evidence the labor market and residential construction is gaining momentum. New Jersey has a mixed employment scorecard, with a basically flat labor force, growing only 0.04 percent, a labor force slightly down by 0.3 percent, and an improved unemployment rate, with a decrease of 0.5 percent to 4.5 percent.
